KARACHI: Japan-based judoka Shah Hussain and Qaiser Afridi won gold medals at the South Asian Judo Championships in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Saturday.
Shah, the Olympian, smartly defended his title by beating Sri Lankan rival in the -100kg final. Earlier, he defeated Indian and Nepali fighters in the first two fights.
Qaiser, an emerging youngster, who had won bronze in the previous edition, got gold in the -90kg. Qaiser defeated fighters from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal to lift the crown.
Meanwhile, Maryam and Humaira Ashiq claimed silver medals in their respective weight categories.
On Sunday (today), Pakistani judokas are expected to win more medals. The team event will be held Monday.
