KARACHI: The top two teams from each of the five districts of Karachi – District South, District Central, District East, District Malir and District West – will vie for top honours when the final round of the Leisure Leagues Karachi Youth Initiative Football Championship begins here at KMC Football Stadium from Saturday (tomorrow).
A total of 1000 players representing 100 teams – twenty teams from each of the five districts – participated in the qualifying rounds of the championship.Two leagues, comprising ten teams each, were then organised for each district. The champions of those ten leagues qualified for the final round. Each team played a total of 14 matches during the qualifying rounds.
In the final round, two groups of four teams each will be formed while the remaining two teams will directly qualify for the semi-finals on the basis of the draw. After the knockout matches, one team from each group, after playing two matches, will qualify for the semi-finals.
The top two teams who have qualified for the final round from each district are Hazara United and Baloch Star from Central, Gizri Star and Al-Ghazi from East, Haji Samad FC and Pak Zamindar from South, Baloch Youth Garden and Khaber Muslim from West and Omer Star and Shazad Mohammadan from Malir.The winners of the Leisure Leagues KYI Football Championship will qualify for the Leisure Leagues Intra-City Championship.
