Pakistan seek consolation win against Canada
GOLD COAST: After failing to win any match in the ten-nation men’s hockey competitions of the 21st Commonwealth Games, Pakistan will be looking to at least earn a consolation win when they fight against Canada in the match for the seventh position here at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre on Friday (today).
The match starts at 5:45am PST.
Pakistan the other day finished fourth in Group B as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Malaysia. Earlier in the tournament which attracted a huge crowd, Pakistan began their journey on a disappointing note when they were held by minnows Wales 1-1 in their opener.
However, Pakistan improved their performance and held higher-ranked India and England by identical 2-2 scores.They failed to progress to the next round because they failed to beat Malaysia in their last round match.
On Friday, South Africa will face Wales in the clash for the ninth position. Malaysia and Scotland will clash for the fifth position.In the evening on Friday, India take on New Zealand and Australia face England in semi-finals under floodlights. The gold and bronze medal encounters will be held on Saturday (tomorrow).
