‘TB patients on the rise in country’

MULTAN: TB patients are increasing in the country due to lack of proper awareness, said TB Control Programme District Officer Dr Waseem Rimzi.
Addressing a seminar at Khawaja Ghulam Farid Social Security Hospital here on Thursday, he said that the TB was a chronic disease and could be cured after a six-month treatment. He said that the World TB Day would be observed in Multan on March 24. He said that 21 TB diagnostic centres and 22 treatment centres were working in the district and providing free drugs to 7,600 patients. At least 5,900 TB patients were treated in 2013, he added.
He said that the Health EDO had established a new TB control centre at Ibne Sina Hospital for free treatment of TB patients. He said that the doctors were worried about the substandard anti-TB drugs. Dr Jamil Ahmad, Dr Mirza Khalil Baig and others also spoke on the occasion.
CASE REGISTERED: Sital Mari police have registered a case against unidentified criminals.
According to the FIR, the complainant and Sital Mari SHO, Khalid Goraya, said that he was performing his duty along Nau Bahar Canal when he heard an explosion at Samijabad. He said that he rushed to the spot and found children Hamza, Omer, Waqas and Akram injured. According to the injured children, they were taking bath in the canal when they saw a hand grenade, which later exploded.
SPRING FESTIVAL: The district administration has changed the spring festival dates.
According to the new dates, the festival will begin from March 25 and conclude on March 28. The dates have been changed due to security reasons. Earlier, the festival was scheduled to begin from March 21.
