PESHAWAR: Peshawar on Monday lifted the overall trophy in the Peshawar Region Under-23 Male Games played here at the Peshawar Sports Complex.
Peshawar grabbed first positions in athletics, volleyball, hockey, badminton, table tennis, tennis, kabaddi, basketball, karate, gymnastic, tug-of-war and squash. Nowshera stood second in the Games while Charsadda clinched third position.
Around 550 athletes from Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar districts participated in 15 different sports disciplines.Peshawar were declared the winners with an aggregate 52 points followed by Nowshera with 20 and Charsadda 18 points.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General Sports Junaid Khan, Director (operations) Syed Saqlain Shah, Peshawar District Sports Officer Jamshed Baloch, other officials were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Peshawar on Monday dominated the first day as the Under-23 female games got under way at the Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charsadda.
In the tug-of-war final, Peshawar defeated Nowshera 2-1. Komal, Laiba, Hira Aqeel, Sana and Hira of Peshawar beat Nowshera team comprising Irum, Lubna, Tahira, Shazia, Gul Rukh and Fatima in straight sets in squash event.
Peshawar also won table tennis event by beating Charsadda 3-0. In the badminton final too, Peshawar thrashed Nowshera 3-0. Peshawar also won volleyball final 3-0 and netball final 7-5.
Contingents from three districts — Charsadda, Nowshera and Peshawar — are participating in the games. Athletes will participate in 13 sports disciplines including athletics, basketball, badminton, cricket, judo, handball, volleyball, table tennis, squash, hockey, baseball, netball and tug-of-war.
Deputy Commissioner Charsadda Muntazir Khan was the chief guest on the occasion. DPO Zahoor Afridi and Director Sports Rashida Ghaznavi were also present on the occasion.
