Repulsive healthcare

I want to bring to light the appalling conditions of the Civil Hospital, Larkana. Last week, I happened to visit the hospital to see an ailing relative, admitted at the orthopaedic ward. I was utterly disappointed and disgusted on stepping inside the healthcare facility. I was greeted by a foul smell right at the main entrance of the hospital. The deeper I walked in, the stronger the stench got. Besides, the basic infrastructure of the ward in question was highly depressing. The patients had brought pedestal fans from their homes as most of the ceiling fans were out of order. And the fans that were in working condition were of no good

Next to the orthopaedic ward was the ENT (ear, nose and throat) ward and that too was in as bad a shape as the orthopaedic one. As if it wasn’t bad enough that people had to bring fans from homes, many of them also had to bring blankets and pillows. This speaks volumes of the non-availability of necessary items at the healthcare facility. The PPP has been in power in Sindh for a decade now. But the condition of a single hospital – that too in the hometown of the party’s founder – reveals the party’s poor level of governance. At the end of the day, it is the common man who bears the brunt of the government’s negligence. Instead of lashing out at other provincial governments and their incompetence in public service delivery, the Sindh government needs to put its own house in order first.
