Elevation of sub-inspectors to inspectors

PESHAWAR: A number of junior police officers have expressed reservations over the new criteria of elevation of sub-inspectors to inspectors and allocating 25 percent quota to those applying for the ‘Fast Track Promotions.’

The officers said that in the past promotion from sub-inspector to inspector was done 100 percent through Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).

A number of junior officers due for promotion to inspectors pointed out that the senior officers of the police are of the view that according to section 30 of Police Act 2017 the 25 percent of the already sanctioned seats of inspectors shall be reserved for fast track through PSC. They said if the government has sanctioned some posts and seats after the notification of Police Act 2017 then this formula should be applied to those posts only.

The cops added that in the other case the formula should be applied only to those posts that are vacant on the day of DPC.

The police officers said the word filled meant occupying a post which is vacant. “If a post is already filled, how can anyone apply for that under the formula of section 30 of Police Act 2017,” the officers asked.

They argued that this formula has neither been applied during the promotion of DSPs in January this year nor during the promotion of inspectors February last year.

According to these police officers, till date the police department has not given any directions to the PSC for appointment of inspectors after a lapse of more than a year of the notification of Police Act. Besides, they asked if there are any rules made for such appointments through public services commission.”
