Flouting bans
Despite ban, gutka is still being sold by city vendors across Sindh. This harmful substance is easily available at all shops, making it easier for even children to buy it. Although the Sindh government has banned the sale of this dangerous product, the authorities have failed to implement the ban in an effective manner. Oral cancer in Pakistan, especially in Karachi, is the second most common cancer and is caused by harmful substances like gutka.
According to healthcare experts, gutka is more harmful as compared with other form of tobacco. One of the harmful effects of Gutka is that it causes the loss of appetite, unusual sleep pattern and loss of concentration. It is said that the safety of the people shall be the highest law. It is the responsibility of the provincial government to take necessary steps to ban the sale of this harmful product.
