Notice issued in Kashmala appointment case
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to federal government on a petition questioning appointment of Kashmala Tariq as Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplaces.Rahmat Qureshi of Insaf Lawyers Forum had moved the petition, raising questions on appointment of Kashmala Tariq. He said the criteria for a person’s appointment as Federal Ombudsperson was the same as it was the appointment of a person as judge of the high court.
He said Kashmala did not meet the qualification to be appointed as Federal Ombudsperson. He asked the court to set aside her appointment. After hearing initial arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, Justice Ayesha A Malik of the LHC issued notices to the federal government and sought reply. Meanwhile. the LHC on Thursday turned down a plea seeking early hearing of a petition challenging former army chief Pervez Musharraf as party head.
