KARACHI: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) registered impressive wins on the third and final day of their first round Patron’s Trophy Grade-II matches on Thursday.
Navy, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Ghani Glass, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Brighto Paints were the others who opened their accounts.
In a Group A outing, here at the SBP Ground, SBP overwhelmed Haideri Traders by eight wickets. SBP chased the 144-run target in the 75th over after losing two wickets. Umar Waheed played a match-winning knock of 91 not out, smashing 17 fours from 95 balls.Haideri Traders, who had conceded 29 runs lead, resumed their second innings at 95-4 and perished for 172 in the 60th over. Mir Wais Khan was their leading scorer with 97-ball 65 in which he hit nine fours. Left-arm pacer Taj Wali bowled impressively as he picked 5-62. Haideri Traders posted 180 in their first innings. In response, SBP staged 209 all out.
In a Group B meeting, at Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot, PQA defeated Candyland by eight wickets. After being forced to follow-on, Candyland were folded for 311 in their second innings which set a 67-run target for the opponents who achieved it in the 16th over for the loss of two wickets.
Adil Akram hit 104 for Candyland, smashing 19 fours from 176 balls. Bilal Baig chipped in with 52 and Adnan Haroon belted 49.Mohammad Waqar got 4-48, while discarded international Mohammad Talha claimed 2-96, for an impressive match-haul of 9-134.
PQA declared their first innings at 347-9. Candyland were skittled out for 102, in response.In another Group B game, at Rana Naved Cricket Academy Ground, Sheikhupura, KPT crushed Ahmed Glass by an innings and 14 runs.
After being forced to follow-on, Ahmed Glass perished for 218 in their second innings after resuming from their overnight score of 174-6. Waqas Ali hit 46-ball 50 with eight fours. Safeer Azam belted 38. Fast bowler Adeel Malik was the hero for KPT as he produced figures of 5-64, for excellent match-tally of 11-113.
KPT posted 344-8 in their first innings. Ahmed Glass were folded, in response, for only 112. In a Group A clash, here at NBP Sports Complex, Navy prevailed over Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) by 44 runs.
Chasing a total of 219, CAA were bowled out for 174. Haris Khanzada, who had hit 100 in their first innings, smashed a solid 59 off 92 balls, which carried eight fours. Spinner Raza Hasan got 5-71, for a match-haul of 8-180.
Having gained a 28-run lead, Navy resumed their second innings at 122-4 and were bundled out for 190. Waseem Ahmed scored 56 off 103 balls, hitting four fours. Hamza Ghanchi made 35. Mohammad Usman Usmani got 3-63, for a match-tally of 5-106.
Navy posted 268 in their first innings. In response, CAA managed 240.In a Group C match, at Diamond Club Ground, Islamabad, ZTBL whipped Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by an innings and 46 runs.
Forced to follow-on, PIA were folded for 127 after resuming their second innings at 73-2. Shaharyar Ghani made 55 with nine fours. Medium fast bowler Hamza Nadeem got 6-37, for match-haul of 9-82.
ZTBL made 321 in their first innings. In response, PIA perished for only 148. In another match, forced to follow-on, Pak Saudi resumed their second innings at 164-3 and were bowled out for 291 which set only 23 runs target for OGDCL who achieved it in the third over without losing a wicket.
Imtiaz Aslam (53), Mohamamd Waqar (52) and Mohammad Imran (47) contributed with the bat for Pak Saudi. Fast bowler Shehzad Azam Rana got 4-37, for 6-74 match figures.OGDCL declared their first innings at 470-3. Pak Saudi made, in response, 210 all out.
In a Group D match, at Railways Stadium, Lahore, Ghani Glass defeated Higher Education Commission (HEC) by ten wickets. After being forced to follow-on, HEC resumed their second innings at 139-5 and were bowled out for 178 which set Ghani Glass six runs to win. They achieved it off just two balls.
Maaz Tamia (52) and Arslaan Zia (44) were the leading scorers in HEC’s second innings. Hasnain Bukhari got 4-33. Ghani Glass accumulated 400-9 in their first innings. In response, HEC were folded for 227.
At LCCA Ground, Lahore, Brighto Paints defeated Railways by six runs. Chasing 187, Railways were bowled out for 180 in their second innings with Zain-ul-Hasnain making 62. Mohammad Ramiz got 4-38. Brighto Paints scored 191 and 238. Railways made 243 in their first innings.
At Army Stadium, Rawalpindi, Capital Development Authority (CDA) overpowered Army by 33 runs. Chasing 251, Army were skittled out for 217. CDA scored 152 and 267. Army made 169 in their first innings.
The Group A match between K-Electric and Omar Associates held here at UBL Sports Complex ended in a draw with the former taking three points due to their first innings lead. K-Electric scored 314 and 258-8 declared. Omar Associates made 219 and 35-1.
