Olympian Khalid threatens to take PHF to court
ISLAMABAD: Olympian Khalid Bashir who was part of the 1994 World Cup winning team threatened to take Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to court of law if the letter of removing him as associate secretary the federation.
In a letter addressed to PHF official in reaction to his letter of removal, former penalty corner specialist Khalid Bashir said that he was only doing his duty as an official of PHF. “I was concerned on media reports regarding alleged corruption in PHF and that was the reason I raised my voice during the Congress meeting held in Islamabad on January 4 in Islamabad. Instead of coming out with facts, I was threatened by some officials in front of all Congress members.”
Khalid Bashir said he was also concerned on the rapid fall in international ranking and standard of hockey in the country. “Pakistan have started playing drawn against teams like Oman which is ranked 32nd in the world. Japan have beaten us in the tri-nation final. Never before we have lost or played draw against these teams. That means our standard is rapidly falling with each passing day.”
He called on the PHF to withdraw the letter of his removal failing which he would have no other option but to seek justice from court of law.Meanwhile, the 30th executive board meeting of PHF would be held in Islamabad on Thursday to discuss among other things elections, scrutiny of districts, provincial and PHF.
