Women’s wushu begins in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: Punjab University took the lead as the All Pakistan Inter-University Women’s Wushu Championship started at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) here on Tuesday.
Vice Chancellor SBBWU Professor Dr Razia Sultana was the chief guest and formally inaugurated the championship. Secretary Fata Olympic Association Rehmat Gul Afridi and a large number of spectators were also present on the occasion.
Athletes from 10 universities are featuring in the championship that is being organised by the Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Over 160 female athletes from Bahauddin Zakria University (Multan), Islamia University (Bahawalpur), Lahore College for Women University (Lahore), Punjab University (Lahore), Abdul Wali Khan University (Mardan), University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (Lahore), Lahore Garrison University, Sargodha University, University of Lahore and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (Peshawar) are taking part in different weights categories while individual and team Tao Lu are also part of the event.
Professor Dr Razia Sultana thanked the Directorate of Sports and Higher Education Commission for the support in organising the championship. She termed female participation in various sports activities vital for the physical and mental health of the students.
Punjab University took a lead in the Tao Lu with 60 points, followed by Lahore College for Women University with 35 points, SBBW University, Lahore Garrison, University of Lahore and University of Sargodha were on 25 points each.
