ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah Tuesday revealed that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had approached the country’s top court to bring government of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) down on someone else’s directives.
“Nawaz Sharif had already confessed his mistake of going to the Supreme Court in Memogate against Asif Ali Zardari before me. Despite the Memogate episode to overthrow the PPP government, Asif Ali Zardari came to Lahore from Karachi to rescue Nawaz Sharif’s government during dharna days,” the opposition leader said at Meet the Press programme of the National Press Club here.
The opposition leader said if Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif got the NRO, it would be a cheating with the nation.
Criticising Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his remarks against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Khursheed Shah said the prime minister has made contempt of an institution and he was not anticipating such a statement from him. “I was not expecting from the prime minster that he would also join the ‘Galam Galoch Brigade (abusing brigade)’ just like the politicians who were product of the martial laws and there was nothing in their speeches except abuses and accusations,” he said.
To a question about consultation on the appointment of caretaker prime minister, Khursheed Shah said consultation would only be made between him and the prime minister, not with Nawaz Sharif. “The PPP will make all out efforts to bring all the parties on same page to on the name of caretaker prime minister,” he said.
