WANA: The father of a former militant commander on Monday threatened to kill four local journalists from South Waziristan Agency.
Anwar Ali Khan Lohar, the father of former militant commander Zafar Ali Lohar, issued the threat during a jirga of tribal elders of South Waziristan in Tank.
The jirga was convened to discuss the problems facing the tribal people and devise strategy to solve the issues.
Anwar Ali Lohar stood up during the jirga proceedings and threatened to kill senior tribal journalist and correspondent for daily The News Malik Irfan Burki, Inzamam Burki, Rafi Burki and Kashif Burki for highlighting misappropriation in the funds for various development projects.
The journalists had brought the issue into the notice of the government and demanded action against Anwar Ali Lohar.
This annoyed Anwar Ali Lohar and he threatened to kill the journalists.
The members of the Kaniguram Press Club condemned the threat to the journalists and termed it an assault on the freedom of press.
They urged the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and South Waziristan’s political administration to take note of the threat to journalists and initiate strict action against Anwar Ali Lohar.
