PHC wants remission to eligible prisoners ensured
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday directed the Inspector General (IG) Prisons Department to ensure grant of remission under the law within one month to all prisoners on the basis of education and course completion in various fields.
A PHC division bench comprising Justice Qalandar Ali Khan and Justice Syed Muhammad Attique Shah issued the directions in a writ petition filed by a prisoner Humayun Khan through his lawyer Shabbir Hussain Gigyani. The petitioner is seeking an order of the court for the prison authorities to grant him due remission under the law. The lawyer submitted that the petitioner was serving life term in Mardan jail. He said under the prisons rules, remission in sentence was awarded to those prisoners who received education in various fields. The lawyer said there were many prisoners who had completed courses in various fields.
