BARA: The National Youth Organisation, youth wing of the Awami National Party (ANP), on Sunday held a workers convention in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.
Speaking at the convention as chief guest, ANP provincial vice-president Imran Afridi said the party workers had rendered matchless sacrifices for the restoration of peace.
He said about 1,100 ANP leaders and workers were martyred in the recent past. He said the ANP always raised voice for the rights of the Pakhtuns.
“Now peace has been restored after one and a half decade of militancy but the educational institutes, hospitals, electricity and roads have not been reconstructed,” he lamented.
He voiced concern at the deprivation of the Pakhtuns and said for how long they would continue to suffer.
“If the Pakhtuns are deprived of rights, we will launch a sit-in against the government,” he threatened.
Imran Afridi said the ANP activists were patriotic and had rendered matchless sacrifices for the country.
“The tribespeople have lagged behind 50 years due to prolonged militancy,” Imran Afridi deplored.
He said that the government should give relief and basic facilities to the militancy-hit people.
Later, ANP Bara president Chiragh Afridi, National Youth Organisation Bara president Khalil Afridi and others spoke on occasion.
