KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan, under the patronage of SAARCFINANCE Forum, organised a three-day seminar on “Digital Financial Services and Financial Inclusion in SAARC countries” at the National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF), Islamabad, a statement said on Wednesday.
SAARCFINANCE, a network of central bank governors and finance secretaries of the SAARC region, was established to share experiences on macroeconomic policy issues among member countries, it added. Riaz Riazuddin, deputy governor of the SBP, inaugurated the seminar.
Addressing the inaugural session, he stressed on the SBP’s financial inclusion objectives, economic benefits, including bringing the unbanked into the financial services network and opportunities relating to digital financial services ecosystem, it added.
He emphasised on digital financial services and financial inclusion as a new paradigm of economic growth that plays a major role in driving away poverty from the country.
Syed Salim Raza, former governor of the central bank shared his views on the evolution of financial services through technological innovations.
