The divisional and district administration of Karachi imposed fines totalling Rs57,500 on 31 shopkeepers for violating the official price list, and arrested eight retailers for continuous violations.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the administration fined 10 milk sellers, two vegetable sellers and 19 chicken sellers during a crackdown.
The action against profiteers was taken in several areas including Saddar, Aram Bagh, Civil Lines, Garden, Baldia Town, Jamshed Quarters, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Model Colony, Landhi, Murad Memon Goth, Shah Faisal Colony and New Karachi.
Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said the operation would continue till the sale of essential items was not ensured according to the official price list.
