US diplomat visits kidney, liver institute

LAHORE: United States Consul General to Lahore Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau, on Wednesday, paid a visit to Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI&RC) where she met with the hospital’s President and CEO Prof Dr Saeed Akhter and other management team members.

According to a press release issued here, the consul general was warmly welcomed by the hospital management and was given a detailed tour of the premises. She was delighted over her visit to the hospital and expressed that PKLI&RC is an excellent project that would definitely raise the standard of healthcare delivery in Pakistan.

Thanking the hospital management for the visit invitation, she said she has been meaning to come over for several months and has been following all of PKLI&RC’s news. During the meeting, both the sides discussed matters of mutual interest and explored avenues of collaborations, including strengthening alumni network.

Trudeau said that the consulate will support PKLI&RC in its scholarship programme, networking with key institutions, academia and industry liaising. PKLI&RC’s foreign qualified and experienced consultants were present in the meeting.

Trudeau mentioned that the consulate would also extend help to the hospital in training of nursing, paramedics and clinical staff, cutting-edge research and modern technology sharing. The consul general appreciatedPKLI&RC’s Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment Programme and said the US consulate and she in her personal capacity would extend the best possible support to the programme, which is aimed at eliminating Hepatitis from Pakistan by raising awareness about preventive measures in addition to providing free-of-cost treatment to poor at par with rich patients. While talking to the CEO, Trudeau said that it was indeed a pleasure and an honour to come to PKLI&RC. Dr Akhter thanked her for the visit and for her resolve to support the noble cause. Trudeau is the 30th American diplomat to lead the US post in Lahore, where the US has maintained a diplomatic presence since 1947.
