Islamabad : Federal Government Polyclinic Joint Executive Director Dr Shahid Hanif will assume the acting charge of the executive director at the second largest public sector hospital of the federal capital today (Monday).

The development comes after the retirement of the incumbent, Dr Zahid Larak, who attained the age of superannuation on Sunday. Dr Shahid is the senior most officer of the hospital’s administrative cadre, who was recently promoted to BPS-20 by the government on the recommendation of the Central Selection Board.

Though he’ll hold the acting charge of the BPS-21 ED post, his posting will be considered to be permanent like his predecessors’, claimed an insider.

The insider ruled out the possibility of an outsider being posted as the ED, saying the Polyclinic has a staff member eligible for the posting, unlike the past when BPS-20 or suitable officials were imported from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, the largest government hospital of the city, to occupy the post.

He also said the Capital Administration and Development Division, which oversaw Polyclinic and PIMS, won’t again provoke administrative complications as well as resentment among staff members by going for the ‘outsider option’.

Two predecessors of Dr Shahid, including Dr Zahid Larak and Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood, were from the PIMS. Both had a brief stint at the Polyclinic. Dr Zahid Larak had held the ED’s post for around eight months until retirement, while Dr Amjad was sent back by the CADD under mysterious circumstances just two months after posting last year.
