Islamabad : The overflowing garbage trolleys near the popular restaurants and food outlets in the Blue Area have become ‘centre of attraction’ for poor young scavengers who come early morning and dig out the rubbish bare-handed to find out food remains to kill their hunger.
The tragic scenes meet the eyes of the onlookers every morning when children aged between five to 10 years start searching food remains from garbage trolleys in the Blue Area, considered the business hub of the capital city.
Unfortunately, these little kids who cannot go to schools to get education due to lack of resources come to Blue Area and rummage through the rubbish near the restaurants and food outlets with bare hands, exposing themselves to the risk of contracting diseases.
Ashraf Wani, a resident of G-7 sector, said when he goes for a morning walk he sees the young children climbing up the garbage trolleys and picking up pieces of bread, rice and other food items thrown out there in the night by the employees of the nearby restaurants.
“If our young children eat bread taken from a garbage trolley then it must be a matter of grave concern for the residents of this posh city who spend thousands of rupees for lavish dinners without taking care of the people belonging to poor strata of society,” he said.
