OKARA: A three-month-old child died when he was administered chicken pox vaccine by a Health Department staffer here on Friday.
A Health Department worker administered chicken pox vaccine to Arsal, son of Junaid Amin, at Mohallah Madina Masjid Mandi Ahmadabad. The condition of the child immediately deteriorated after vaccination and red rashes started appearing on his body. To it, Junaid took his son to the Children Hospital, Lahore, for treatment. However, the child died after sometime.
The Children Hospital authorities mentioned in the death certificate that the child died due to spreading of poison in his blood as reaction of vaccine. Junaid Amin has demanded the higher authorities take notice of the incident. Addressing a workshop on maize and potato cultivation, Potato Board chairman Chaudhry Maqsood Jat stressed the need of equipping Pakistani farmers with modern methods and technology to enhance the production of the crops.
Food Technologist Muhammad Arshad Iqbal, who arrived from Canada, Mian Farooq, big agriculturist, potato expert Dr Ijaz, agriculturist Rai Saleem Raza advocate, Dr Ali Azhar and Dr Afzaal Haidar Rizvi, Rao Humayun Mustafa, Rao Zamir Sadiq, Danish Miraza and Rizwan Nazar also attended the moot.
