Abid, Shahzad clinch doubles title in tennis tourney

KARACHI: Top seed pair Mohammad Abid and Shahzad Khan overpowered second seeded Murtaza brothers in the summit clash of men’s doubles event in the inaugural Chairman JCSC Open Tennis Championship on Friday at PTF Complex in Islamabad.
Abid and Shahzad dropped a set before beating Muzammil and Mudassir Murtaza by 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 after a tough battle. In the senior 45 doubles final, second seed pair of Hamid-ul-Haq and Mushaf Zia stunned top seeded Irfan Ullah and Mehmood Khan in straight sets.
In the boys under-18 event final, Muhammad Shoaib bagged the title when he beat Huzaifa Abdul Rehman in an entertaining match. In the boys/girls singles under-10 final, Hamza Roman bagged the title after facing tough resistance from Jamal Shah.
