Abid, Muzammil make it to CJCSC Tennis final

ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Abid and Muzammil Murtaza will compete for the men’s singles title in the first Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Open Tennis Championship underway here at the PTF Complex.
Top seed Muhammad Abid overpowered a resilient Heera Ashiq in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Both players played quality tennis and stretched each other to the limits in one of the entertaining matches of the day. In the second semi-final Muzammil Murtaza breezed past Yousaf Khalil easily 6-2, 6-1. Mahin Aftab stunned second seed Sarah Mahboob in the entertaining ladies quarter-finals in a match that was decided in three sets. Both players displayed excellent tennis skills throughout the match and played shots all over the court.
In the under-14 boys singles final Hamza Roman beat Hasan Ali in three sets to bag the title. Both youngsters played good tennis but Roman proved too good in the end.Results (men’s singles): Muhammad Abid (1) bt Heera Ashiq (4) 4-6, 6-4, 7-5; Muzammil Murtaza (3) bt Yousaf Khalil 6-2, 6-1.
Boys singles under-18: Mohammad Shoaib (1) bt Ahmad Kamil (4) 6-2, 6-4; Huzaifa Abdul Rehman bt Nauman Aftab: 6-3, 6-0.Boys singles under-14 final: Hamza Roman (1) bt Hasan Ali 4-2, 4-5(4), 4-1.
Boys singles semis: Hamza Roman (1) bt Hamad Shah (4) 1-4, 4-0, 5-4 (5); Jamal Shah (3) beat Abdullah Azhar (2) 5-3, 4-1.
Men’s doubles semis: M. Abid/Shahzad Khan (1) bt Abdaal Haider/M. Zaid Mujahid 6-2, 6-3; Muzammil Mutaza/Mudassir Murtaza (2) bt M. Shoaib/Huzaifa Abdul Rehman 6-3, 6-0.
Ladies singles quarter-finals: Sara Mansoor (1) w/o Alina Aftab; Mahvish Chishti (4) w/o Oreen Jasaia; Esha Jawad (3) bt Sheeza Sajid 6-0, 6-0; Mahin Aftab bt Sara Mahboob (2) 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4).
