PHF seeks govts’ help for Mansoor’s treatment

KARACHI: PHF president Brig (rtd) Khalid Khokhar has written a letter to federal minister IPC Riaz Pirzada and to the Sindh sports department for providing financial help to ailing World Cup-winning hero Mansoor Ahmed, who is being treated at a hospital.

Mansoor has been in ICU for a couple of days. PHF has sent chairman national selection committee Islahuddin to inquire about his health. When Mansoor’s pictures in ICU got circulated on social media, the hockey fraternity became worried about his health as he seems very weak.

Mansoor had been ill for past many months but he did not disclose the details of his ailment although he looked in a bad shape. Whenever this reporter asked about his health, he would give an evasive answer.

Mansoor, who played for the country from 1986 to 2000, was a member of the Pakistan team that won gold at the 1994 World Cup in Sydney.The PHF president asked Mansoor, when his ailment was in initial stage, to come to Islamabad for treatment, saying PHF would provide all possible help.

PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmed said that the entire hockey fraternity was behind Mansoor and PHF was not only itself helping him but also requesting to the federal and provincial governments on his behalf.

Sources said PHF president had written to the federal and Sindh governments for providing financial help to Mansoor. PHF’s director development domestic Naveed Alam said that it was their moral responsibility to provide all possible medical facilities to Mansoor.

He said that PHF is in contact with the federal government for treatment of the great goalkeeper. PHF president has asked Karachi office to keep in touch with Mansoor’s family and update him regularly about his health.
