LAHORE
HIGHER Education Commission (HEC) organised a second round of 17th All Pakistan Inter University Declamation Contest for the Award of Allama Iqbal Shield 2014 at Punjab level at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).
More than 76 contestants from 29 universities/institutes both from public and private sectors took part in the contest. The first, second, and third positions in Urdu declamation contest were secured by Zahid Ali of Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Yasir Rashid and Huzaifa Anwar of Punjab University, respectively.
In the English declamation contest, first, second, and third positions were secured by Mehtab Alvi of LCWU, Manaal Ayesha of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Rawalpindi and Kiran Abbas, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila, respectively.
Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan distributed the cash prizes, shields, and certificates among contestants.
LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sabiha Mansoor and GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rehman were the guests of honour during the English and Urdu declamation contest sessions respectively. Earlier in his welcome address, Regional Director HEC Lahore Nazeer Hussain highlighted the significance of All Pakistan Inter University Declamation Contest for the award of Allama Iqbal shield.
