Ghazi University without VC even after 3 years From Hasnain Qaisrani DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan is functioning without vice-chancellor since its establishment that is giving rise to serious academic as well as administrative issues. Although the DG Khan commissioner having the additional charge is managing the affairs for the last three years on a temporary basis, there is unrest among the students and the teaching staff as they are demanding regular posting of the vice-chancellor. The Ghazi University, established in 2012 with the an Act passed by the Punjab Assembly after the upgradation of Government Postgraduate College Dera Ghazi Khan, is working in the old building of the college and the construction of new building could not be started so far for some unknown reasons. The university is providing services to a vast area as students from Balochistan and the adjoining districts of Sindh are also studying there in various disciplines. It is important to note that around 1,100 acres of land was allocated on Sakhi Sarwar Road for the varsity campus, including the hostels. The students believe running the varsity affairs and the extensive construction works require dedication which only possible with the appointment of a competent and experienced vice-chancellor otherwise the current issues could not be resolved. They said currently, the university had no representation at the higher forums while the academic as well as administrative activities were being hampered due to the vacant post of vice-chancellor, as they called for immediate appointment of the varsity head. Sources within the academic staff of the university said the process for the appointment of vice-chancellor was expected initiated soon; however, the official version on the issue could not be ascertained.
