MULTAN: Wapda took a 3-2 lead in the seven-match volleyball series when they beat Navy Navy 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22) in the fifth match at the Postgraduate College ground Layyah on Friday.
Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) is organising the series to promote the game in the remote areas of Pakistan. In the hard-fought fifth match of the series Wapda beat Navy who looked in good form after winning two back to back matches. Navy failed to maintain the momentum. The sailors succumbed to Wapda’s pressure and lost the match 3-1.
Wapda won the first game through brilliant performance of Younis, Mohib, Asif and Razzaq. Particularly, Younis smashed hard, blocked effectively. Wapda players also avoided mistakes of serving the ball. Navy bounced back to win the second set convincingly.
Khalid, Shuja and Wasif performed well. Khalid was once again proved himself as a future star whose hard smashes were unstoppable for Wapda’s defenders. Both teams hotly contested the last two sets during which Navy players seemed tired and succumbed against Wapda’s aggressive game. At close Divisional Police Officer Nasir Mukhtar Rajput gave away trophies to the captains of both teams. Sixth match of the series will be played at Dera Ghazi Khan.
