PBA to hold monthly pro boxing shows
LAHORE: Professional Boxing Association (PBA), one of the bodies that has initiated professional bouts in the country, plans to organise monthly professional boxing shows in each province of the country.
For the purpose, the officials of PBA, under the president-ship of Rasheed Baloch, is seeking stakeholders for support in the development of professional boxing base in Pakistan. Rasheed from his personal efforts conducted WBC referee judges course in Pakistan in November last year in Islamabad and no similar course is being planned to be conducted in the days to come at Quetta.
Talking to The News, Rasheed Baloch said that he will be inviting referees, judges and boxing trainers of various world bodies to conduct courses in Pakistan. “It’s the initial stage and we are desperately seeking sponsors to introduce our boxers in the world and once a proper base is set in Pakistan, sponsors from world over would run after Pakistan boxers,” he maintained. Rasheed, a former Pakistan’s amateur boxer turned professional, maintained his love for the game not only is promoting boxing but has also introduced his son Zaigham Rasheed Baloch to boxing. And only recently, Zaigham took part in two back to back amateur bouts on February 17 and 18 in Auckland and Hamilton in New Zealand and this 19 years old boxer from Pakistan won both these bouts.
