The 21st century woman

Every woman has the right to be treated with dignity, honour and respect. In order to make people aware about the rights of the women, March 8 is celebrated as the International Women’s Day every year.
However, even in the 21st century, women are confronting notions like what a woman is or should be. There are people who continue to reinforce misguided views about woman, especially when it comes to their place in society. Unfortunately, a large number of Pakistani women are also victims of gender-based violence. In our society, violence against women in the form of abduction, rape, torture, physical assault, honour killings and early marriage is quite common. It is time the government took measures to formulate gender-sensitive policies in collaboration with the civil society to protect women against all evils.
