OKARA: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Sirajul Haq has said that only 2 per cent mafia is ruling over 98 per cent common people of the country and constantly confiscating their rights.
Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Saturday, he said that the country’s politics, economy, democratic institutions and political parties all were occupied by this mafia, adding that the problems of poverty and declining economy could not be resolved without controlling this mafia. He said that till the farmers, tenants in agriculture and labourers in factories were not conferred status of share-holders, nothing could be set right. He said that politicians and bureaucrats were busy resolving their own problems instead of resolving the people’s problems. He asked the government to withdraw from the General Sales Tax (GST) imposed on agriculture necessities. A flat-rate for agriculture tube-wells must be enforced to facilitate the farmers, he added. The JI chief said that all the national banks offer heavy loans to capitalists in the country, adding that no small businessman or a labourer could obtain bank loans without showing sufficient guarantee, which he virtually does not have. The government must introduce such policies, which could enable small businessmen and labourers to obtain loans from banks on their own National Identity Card and without guarantee, he suggested. Sirajul Haq said that the JI would cast vote for the chairman and deputy chairman slots on merit in the Senate.
