HARIPUR: The district administration on Thursday started an anti-encroachment drive and demolished portions of several shops and illegal buildings, which had been constructed on government land here. The anti-encroachment team, led by Assistant Commissioner Sara Rehman, supervised the drive. A heavy contingent of police was also deployed on the occasion as a pre-emptive measure. As per official sources, the administration had earlier issued notices to the encroachers on the GPO Road to vacate the public property or face action. However, taking action against the encroachers, the district Tehsil Municipal Administration’s employees reclaimed the government land by pulling down the extended portions of around 30 shops including a hospital and double storey buildings.
