Direct Senate elections

Wonders on this land never cease. Why on earth do we keep hearing odd political updates every now and then? The recent row over the selling of Senate seats is interesting. The undignified manner in which the whole Senate election process was conducted can be judged from the fact that all political parties were negotiating terms of money even with their opponents.
Senators and MNAs enjoy same rights and privileges. Therefore, both should equally be weighed in terms of election and accountability. Just like parliamentarians, we hardly hear about senators announcing development schemes. After all, their existence in parliament, directly or indirectly, influences the general public. So the modus operandi of the Senate elections should be altered and we should have direct elections to senators.
