Drains in Kohat, Peshawar contain polio virus
KOHAT: The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday said that evidence had been found confirming that drains in Kohat and Peshawar districts contained polio virus.
Speaking at a news briefing here, Deputy National Team Leader WHO Dr Ibrahim Elahood said that evidence collected from the samples taken for a test for polio virus from drains in Kohat and Peshawar districts suggested that the virus still existed in the two districts.
He said that the environmental samples were tested positive for virus in these districts. He said that an emergency anti-polio campaign was launched in Kohat after the confirmation of existence of the virus.
He said that results of samples collected from drains in other districts were being awaited. He urged the sister organisations working for eradication of the virus to play their role in eradicating the crippling virus.
