Rawalpindi: A number of fraudulent gangs are now trying to befool the innocent people after misinforming them about the draw or prize they won from the schemes that actually exist nowhere in the city.

Majida Kiyani, a resident of Sabzazar area, said she received a prank phone call last week from an unknown woman who introduced herself as a sales manager of a housing society. “The woman informed me that they held a draw using the mobile phone numbers of this locality and I have won a 5-marla plot in it. Then she asked me to submit Rs5,000 as a registration fee after which the plot would be allotted to me,” she said.

She said when her husband later called that woman and asked for the location of their office the woman on the other side first tried to change the topic then switched off her mobile phone.

Tauqir Shah, a government servant, said he was doing work in his office when a person called him and gave reference to a television show, adding “He told me that I have won a draw that was held in a private channel show. The draw according to him was held using data from the Nadra office.” He said: “When I inquired about the draw from the private channel the whole information was false and it was an attempt to loot money on the pretext of registration to get prize.”
