ITF Junior Tennis to begin on Feb 19
ISLAMABAD: Some leading budding players from 11 countries including hosts Pakistan will be seen in action in the ITF Junior Tennis Tournament, which will begin here at the Dilawar Abbas PTF Complex from February 19-24.
The organisers of the event have received number of entries from UK, USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Greece, Canada and Turkey. The tournament also provides a big opportunity for the 15-year-old Shoaib Khan to make a name for him and earn crucial ranking points to compete in more such events abroad.
The main draw consists of 32 players in the singles and 16 pairs in doubles, while the qualifying round for the singles is also for 32 players. Pakistan Tennis Federation Patron Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas was delighted to announce that the ITF Pakistan Junior event is returning to the country after nine years.
After the successful conduct of the Davis Cup ties and ITF Futures in 2017 and 2018, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) agreed to allocate one ITF Under-18 Tournament to PTF, which will be held under the auspicious of Islamabad Tennis Association from February 19-24.The qualifying round will begin from February 16 while the main draw starting from February 19.Muhammad Arif Qureshi, ITF White Badge official, has been nominated as referee for the championship.
