The administrative judge of an anti-terrorism court has accepted a seven-day physical remand of three policemen accused of being involved in the extrajudicial murder of Waziristan tribesman Naqeebullah Mehsud.
The accused constables Abdul Ali, Shafeeq Ahmed and Ghulam Nazik were produced in court on Monday. SP Abid Qaimkhani, who is the investigation officer, told the court that the three men had been working as members of the team set up by former Malir SSP Rao Anwar and were involved in the fake encounter of Naqeeb.
Qaimkhani prayed to the court to grant physical remand of the three accused to interrogate them and the judge allowed them to be in police custody on a seven-day remand. A total of nine policemen accused of being involved in the murder are currently in police custody, while Anwar is still at large. Mehsud was shot dead along with three others in a fake police encounter by Anwar and his team on January 13 in Shah Latif Town.
Police had claimed that Naqeeb and the others were terrorists, however, his social media posts and a subsequent police investigation into his murder determined that the police’s claim was false, and his murder was declared extrajudicial.
