Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh administered oath to six additional judges at a ceremony held on Tuesday.

The newly appointed judges are Mrs Kausar Sultana Hussain, Irshad Ali Shah, Agha Faisal, Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry, Amjad Ali Sahito and Shamsuddin Abbasi. The ceremony was attended by judges, federal and provincial law officers, and bar representatives along with other judicial officers.

After the induction of six additional judges, the total strength of the judges has increased to 39 against the sanctioned strength is 40.In November 2016, five judges were appointed to the SHC, namely Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui, Khadim Hussain Tunio, Omar Sial, Adnanul Karim Memon and Yousuf Ali Sayeed.

Prior to that, in June 2016, four more judges were elevated to the SHC; Rasheed Ahmed Soomro, Mohammad Humayon Khan, Arshad Husaain Khan and Mohammad Saleem Jessar. The increased strength is a welcome move considering the persistently high number of cases pending with the courts.

Speaking at an event in January this year, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had also urged judges of the country’s high courts to dispose of pending cases within three months.
