NAB committed to curb corruption

February 06, 2018

Islamabad: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal said that corruption is mother of all evils. NAB is committed to root out corruption with iron hands, says a press release.

He said NAB has geared up and rejuvenated to eradicate corruption which is its top most priority. Due to NAB’s proactive anti-corruption strategy, NAB’s conviction ratio is about 76 per cent which is a remarkable achievement in investigation of white collar crimes.

He said that the hard work, commitment, transparency and merit being put in by NAB officers are being appreciated by national and international reputed organisations. NAB officers should double their efforts in nabbing corruption and recovered hard earned looted money of the innocent citizen of the country. He said that due to excellent conviction ratio, people have complete trust upon NAB and we must come up to the expectations of the nation in order to root out corruption by adopting zero tolerance and accountability for all with the help of other stakeholders like media and civil society etc.

Through detailed introspection and analysis of organisational, operational and prosecution weaknesses, overhaul of procedures and all pillars of the organisation i.e. operations, prosecution, human resource development and awareness and prevention have been reactivated. He said that NAB has rationalised its workload and timelines have been prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases putting a maximum limit of 10 months- from complaint verification-to-inquiry-to-investigation and finally to a reference in the accountability court. He said that NAB is the only organization which has prescribed time frame for disposal of cases in 10 months. He said that the quality of inquiry and investigation of NAB has been improved due to establishment of NAB’s first Forensic Science Lab (FSL) in Islamabad which has all facilities of digital forensics, questioned documents and fingerprint analysis. He said that NAB has devised a web based Monitoring & Evaluation System (MES) in order to monitor NAB performance of NAB and all Regional Bureaus in qualitative and quantitative term which has proved very successful.

He said that we have engaged youth in order to aware them about the ill effects of corruption at an early stage and signed MoU with HEC. Due to establishment of over 55,000 Character Building Societies in universities/colleges and schools, today our youth is now more aware about the ill effects of corruption which is major hurdle in the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. He said that NAB is Chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum. This was a reorganisation of NAB’s excellent work. NAB is the only organisation with whom China has signed an MoU to oversee projects being undertaken under CEPC. He said that NAB hopes that joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check corruption before happening with the help of all stakeholders.
