BANNU: A local leader of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) was gunned down in Ghoriwala area here on Sunday.
The sources said that Malik Tufail Khan, a candidate for constituency PK-71, was on his way back after offering fateha in Paka Bachak when armed men opened fire on his vehicle at Kurz Pull in Ghoriwala, killing him on the spot.
Belonging to a political family, Malik Tufail Khan was considered a strong candidate of JI for PK-71. “He was a strong party candidate for PK-71. He was a very active party leader,” said Inamul Haq, the deputy district president of party.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a first information report against the unidentified killers. “A search has also been launched in the area,” said an official. However, there was no report about any arrest in the search.
