PESHAWAR: The Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) on Wednesday organised a two-day Women Employability and Job Fair here on Wednesday.

The representatives of around 25 companies participated in the event organized at the university campus in Larama. They would also conduct interviews of prospective candidates on the second day of the event. Minister for Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.

The SBBWU also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority. The university will take over the Women Business Development Centre (WBDC) of SMEDA.

The WBDC, an incubation centre, was acquired for facilitating the graduates of the university for launching their startups. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Razia Sultana and Chairman SMEDA Javed Khattak singed the MoU.

Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said the youth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was talented and the institutions needed to channelise their energies. She said no government could provide jobs to all youth in any country, adding that it was the responsibility of universities to train them for self-employment.

“We are going to have a great job market in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It would be the hub of various projects being launched under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in near future,” she added. Dr Razia Sultana said that the initiative that her university had taken was going to take more momentum in future with the cooperation of the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Mushtaq Ghani said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had improved the education and health system in the province.

He said the PTI had two choices in 2013 when they took over the affairs of the government.

“We had to invest in health and education and improve the service delivery system in these departments or launch Metro Bus and we chose the first for the better future of our children,” he added.

The minister said the previous government never wanted to introduce reforms in the province while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) changed the system and stopped the sale of jobs.
