PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday stayed appointment of teachers in the province till the next order of the court in a writ petition challenging the provincial government notification removing the condition of professional qualification for appointment of teachers in the government educational institutions.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Musarrat Hilali issued the stay order in appointment of hundreds of teachers in the province till the next order. The bench sought reply from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through chief secretary, secretary education and manager National Testing Services (NTS) before next hearing.
The bench issued the stay order in writ petition of the candidates including Waheed Khan and Mehran Khan filed through their lawyer, Asif Khan Yousafzai.
During arguments, the lawyer submitted that the petitioners had got professional certificates as it was requisite for the posts of primary school teacher, certified teachers and other teaching posts in the education department.
He said that in December 2017, the provincial government had issued a notification removing the requirement of professional qualification for appointment of teachers of different categories in government schools in the province.
He said that the petitioners had completed the professional qualifications for the teaching jobs intwo years, but in the notification no relief was given to those candidates who had got the professional qualification and brought them equal to those candidates who did not get the
professional qualifications for the posts.
