Once again, residents of various localities in the city and cantonment have been facing problems due to low or zero gas pressure after rain.
The majority of ‘naanbais’ have removed their gas connections because of inflated bills without gas and using LPG and firewood in their ‘tandoors’.
Domestic consumers, particularly in Saddar, Tench Bhata, Al-Mumtaz Colony, Gulshanabad, Adiala Road, Committee Chowk, Pirwadhai, Dhamial, Talhi Mohri, Gulrez Housing Scheme, Mohallah Hajian, Shah Khalid Colony, Jan Colony, Chamanzar Colony, Babar Colony, Dhoke Mangtal, Chaklala Scheme-III, People’s Colony, Dhoke Syedan, Dhoke Chaudhrian, Dhoke Khabba, Umer Road, Dhoke Illahi Bakhsh, Nadeem Colony, Arya Mohallah, Bakramandi, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Qasim Market, Satellite Town, Chur, Allahabad, Chah Sultan, Asghar Mall and Pindora have been facing immense difficulties due to low or zero gas pressure in their houses.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Chief Engineer Muhammad Zahoor, when contacted by ‘The News’, admitted that consumers in some localities have been facing low gas pressure for a couple of days. He said that the gas pressure depends on weather, if weather remains cold people will further face low gas pressure in the coming days.
Residents have expressed grave concern over gas loadshedding and low gas pressure in the winter season, which is affecting their routine life. People urged the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and other concerned authorities to take steps for regularising gas supply in the winter season.
The low or zero gas pressure problem is also adversely affecting commercial activities, particularly of ‘tandoorwalas’ and ‘hotels’, depriving hundreds of people of their livelihood.
Residents of the affected localities complained that gas supply is disconnected from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., which has become a regular feature since the start of the winter season. The majority of ‘naanbais’

are using firewood to run their business.
Zunaira Wasti, a housewife, said that she faces trouble while preparing food for her school-going children in the morning. “I cannot heat up water for my children due to low gas pressure,” she said. She expressed resentment over low gas pressure.
Domestic consumers have not been getting sufficient gas pressure to prepare meals, complained Rehana Kausar. She said that weather was a little bit cold for a couple of days and the concerned authorities were resorting to gas loadshedding even for domestic use.
