History is the witness that testifies to the fact that Pakistan has been facing brutal incidents of child sex abuse for decades. Recently, the rape and brutal murder of a seven-year-old girl, Zainab, jolted the entire nation. Angry protesters called for the Punjab government to bring the killer to book and put an end to such heinous crimes. However, one thing was observed: the Kasur incident turned out to be a political playground for the politicians who played political tricks for their self-interests.
Everybody raised its finger at the Punjab government. However, history tells us that so many similar cases have happened in the past as well and these cases were not limited to Punjab. In fact, such crimes are being committed across the country. Just a few days after the Kasur incident, a four-year-old girl, Asma, was raped and murdered. The incident took place in Mardan. Similarly, Sindh is also accused of gross human right violations. Using such brutal incidents to bring down an opponent is shameful. These incidents show that our children are not safe. If we want to put an end to these crimes, we have to stand united.
