On Sunday (Jan 21), an eight-year-old madressah student was beaten to death allegedly by his teacher. Although corporal punishment is prohibited in Sindh, teachers still beat students using a ruler or stick. These punishments cause pain and harm to children. The Sunday incident highlights the serious consequences of beating a child.
The young boy who has now lost his life had run away from the seminary because he had been subjected to corporal punishment in the past as well. That day, his parents had brought him back to the institution where he was beaten to death. Although his parents didn’t want to file a complaint against the teacher, the police have arrested him and failed an FIR against him. The authorities should punish the culprit so that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
