Robber killed by accomplice
LAHORE : A robber killed his accomplice during a robbery attempt in the Shafiqabad area on Sunday.
A man, Shahbaz, a resident of Chaudhry Park, Shafiqabad, along with a woman relative and her three-month-old baby girl was on his way on a bike when two armed robbers intercepted and took them hostage at gunpoint. Shahbaz offered resistance and managed to overpower one of the robbers. The other robber got panicked and fired shots which hit his accomplice, resulting into his death. Police have removed the body to morgue.
buried: Two persons were buried by a welfare trust in a local graveyard on Sunday.
A 70-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man who had lost their lives in two different road accidents were laid to rest in a local graveyard.
Youth found dead: A 25-year-old youth, yet to be identified, was found dead in the Mughalpura police jurisdiction on Sunday.
Passersby spotted his body lying near Mughalpura Underpass and informed police.
There were marks of torture on the body, police said, adding that it was yet to be established whether he died in a road accident or he was tortured to death. The body has been removed to morgue.
gutted: Plastic worth hundreds of thousands of rupees was reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a plastic godown on Bund Road on Sunday.
The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Firefighters extinguished it after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported.
road accidents: Total 812 road accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service/Rescue 1122 from all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Six lives were lost and 536 people sustained injuries in the road accidents. The injured were removed to hospitals. However, some 368 victims who sustained minor injuries were provided with first aid by the emergency medical teams.
Security: Security in the provincial metropolis was put on high alert to thwart any untoward incident on Sunday.
The additional SPs reviewed security arrangements, visited churches and sensitive buildings in their respective areas following the directions of the capital city police officer.
The CCPO appealed to the citizens to extend their full cooperation to police and immediately inform police at Rescue 15 or 8330 about any suspicious activity around them.
