Amir, Daud, Ibrahim reach National Boxing semi-finals
KARACHI: Navy’s Amir Khan and Daud Khan and Army’s Ibrahim blasted their way into the semi-finals on the second day of the 36th National Men’s Boxing Championship at the WAPDA Sports Complex, Lahore, on Sunday.
International Amir defeated Adeel Samad of Balochistan in the 56 kilogramme quarter-final. Daud of Navy got the better of Ehsan Iqbal of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in the light flyweight (49kg) quarter-final with an enviable ease.
In the 60kg quarter-final, Ibrahim of Army whacked Mohsin Khan of K-Electric to reach the last-four stage.
In the quarter-final of 49kg, Mohammad Naeem of Punjab defeated Samiullah of Balochistan.
In the 52kg quarter-final, Usman Khan of FATA breezed past Inamullah of AJK.
In the 64kg quarter-final, Amir Masood of KP showed the exit door to Sohail Khan of FATA.
Earlier, in men’s events first round 69kg competitions, Shah Mohammad of Railways ousted Awais Ullah of Police when the latter was disqualified.
In the 75kg first round, international Tanveer Ahmed of Navy defeated Afzal Khan of Punjab to make it to the quarter-finals. In another fight of this class, Javed Akhtar of Railways overcame Ali Hamza of FATA and Hashmatullah Khan of Islamabad shocked Jamal Nasir of WAPDA.
In the 81kg first round, Naeem Khan of PAF defeated Shahid Khan of KP, Pakistan’s top boxer Awais Ali Khan of Army got the better of Majid Ali of Navy, Noorullah of Railways defeated Sohail Zubair of AJK, Ehsanullah of K-Electric beat FATA’s Abdul Qayyum and international Niamatullah of WAPDA defeated Asmatullah of Police to make it to the quarter-finals.
In the 91kg first round, Mehmood-ul-Hasan of PAF outshone Shabbir Ahmed of Balochistan, international Sanaullah of WAPDA overwhelmed Bilal Khan of K-Electric, Mohammad Amin of Police defeated Zulqarnain of Punjab and international Ahmed Ali of Army overcame Tariq Nawaz of Navy to confirm their quarter-finals berths.
Yasir Jamil of Sindh defeated Imtiaz Afridi of KP in the +91kg first round to make it to the quarter-finals. Also advancing to the last-eight stage in this class was Hafeezullah Hamza of Punjab who whacked Tariq Mehmood of Police.
In the 1st National Women Boxing Championship 48kg-51kg quarter-finals, Kulsoom of Punjab defeated Khaula of K-Electric, Tayyaba Bano of Islamabad overpowered Nabeela of FATA and Safeena of KP ousted Seerat of AJK to move into the semi-finals. In the 57kg-60kg quarter-final, Memoona Bibi of Balochistan defeated Marina of Sindh.
