457kg narcotics set on fire in Swabi

SWABI: The police set on fire 457 kilograms of contraband in the presence of judges on Tuesday.

The contraband items including 419 kilograms of charas, 34kg heroin, four kgs of opium and 24 bottles of liquor in the presence of judges and officials.

The contraband items were seized by the district police during the last one year.

Meanwhile, the police also seized five kilograms of charas and one kilogram of heroin. The alleged trafficker was arrested.

Shafiq Ahmad, SHO of Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate Police Station said that the cops were on a routine patrol near the Gadoon Estate when they stopped a bike rider, Abid Khan. During search the cops recovered five kg charas and one kg heroin from his possession.

“A pistol has also been recovered from the arrested smuggler,” he added.

Counterfeit cigarettes, beverages torched in Mardan: Shad Mohammad Khan, Director General, Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue (I&I-IR) Islamabad on Tuesday said the Federal Board of Revenue was trying to bring more people in the tax net.

He expressed these views at a ceremony arranged for destroying counterfeit cigarettes and beverages at the Industrial Estate in Risalpur.

The director general set on fire the seized contraband goods worth Rs28,945,143.

The official added that these goods had been seized during patrolling as well as intelligence-based operations.

He said I&I Mardan office was established in February 2017 at Sheikh Maltoon Town for carrying out field operations in the Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera and Charsadda districts.

Director I&I-IR Peshawar Mohammad Tariq Arbab, Additional Director Fakhryia Anum, Jamal Khan, Ghayas Ali Shah, Ziaullah Khan and other officials of I&I-IR were also present on the occasion.
