H1N1 takes two more lives in Multan

MULTAN: The H1N1 influenza virus took two more lives on Tuesday at Nishtar Hospital, increasing the death toll to 23 from 21 after the hiatus of three days, said the health officials.

Briefing the mediamen, epidemiology focal person Dr Attaur Rehman confirmed two more deaths at the hospital. An 80-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman from Multan died at the isolation ward on Tuesday, he said. Dr Atta said five new suspects had also been admitted in Multan and Layyah districts, which escalates the number of admitted suspects to 184 from 179 in last 24 hours.

“The situation is vulnerable in Multan, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh and Layyah out of the 11 south Punjab districts. The disease is under control in Dera Ghazi Khan, Vehari, Toba Tek Singh, Lodhran, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, Jhang, Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Dera Ismail Khan,” he informed.

He said out of the total 23 deaths, Multan district had received the high number of 16 deaths, followed by Khanewal with two deaths, three in Muzaffargarh, one in Vehari and one in Rajanpur.
