ISLAMABAD: Fourteen-year old Muhammad Umer Khan (Punjab) became national Under-18 snooker champion after beating provincial mate Muhammad Muddassir Sheikh 5-2 in the final at the Pakistan Sports Complex gymnasium Thursday.
Umer after conceding first frame 41-62, came back strongly winning the second 65-42. He kept on mounting the pressure, by winning third frame 64-22. Muddassir by displaying some good shots won the fourth frame 54-42 to make it 2-2.
Umer then was seen in a brilliant form winning the next three frames 54-16, 77-28, 65-16 to win the title.Muhammad Kashif and Muhammad Wajid from KP supervised the final match.A total of 32 players from Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan and Islamabad participated in the six-day championship held on league basis at PSB Billiards & Snooker Hall of Pakistan Sports Complex.
Meanwhile, Jubilee Insurance 10th National Junior Under-21 Snooker Championship will commence from tomorrow (Saturday) at the same venue.Thirty-two players from Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan and Islamabad will compete in the event.Results: Junior Under-18 final: Umer Khan (Pjb) bt Sheikh Muddassir (Pjb) 5-2 (41-62, 65-42, 64-22, 42-54, 54-16, 77-28, 65-16).
